Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company's lines to West Chester, Media, Sharon Hill and Ardmore all involved lengthy stretches of open track, necessitating larger and heavier snow fighting equipment than would be needed just for city streets.

Number 4 served the company well in this regard, and was retained by the successor transit authority (SEPTA) for nearly two additional decades.  It has proven to be a useful machine at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum as well, cleaning our line on several occasions after winter storms.

The car is fully operational, and is stored in the Trolley Display Building only because space in the other buildings is presently at such a premium.  When space becomes available, it will join the remaining work fleet and again keep the track clear for wintertime operation.
