The Trolley Rides |
Start the visit off with a 4–mile trolley ride! This is what the students are most interested in and really allows them to get so much more from the other activities. We will also take you on a second ride later in the visit! This allows students to experience different types of trolleys, to compare and contrast, and to tie in the information presented throughout the visit |
| Activity Options | |
The Play Trolley: for younger visitors (preschoolers — 1st grade). The children board Play Car 225 and pretend they are the Motorman! They can put up poles, turn the controllers and ring the bell. They can also be the Conductor! “All Aboard!” |
Trolley tours: Some concepts are just easier to explain on the trolleys themselves, for example a single-ended trolley versus a double-ended trolley. Everyone likes to flip seats and ring bells! Ok, the photo doesn't show children but you get the idea! The |
| Interactive / hands-on discussion: Discuss trolley history and mechanical information using photographs and actual artifacts (controls, tokens, changers, etc). |
Trolley Display Building: For older students (1st grade and up). This building houses an additional 30 trolleys and generates many, many questions |
| The Restoration Shop: Vintage trolleys require both maintenance and restoration. You never know what you will see in this area. |
Seasonal activities: April: Poetry Trolley May: Transportation month and Postcard week October: Harvest Trolley December: Santa Trolley

When you
call for information or to schedule a visit, we will discuss and design
your visit! We are not limited to the activities listed—perhaps you are
studying simple machines. We can plan a scavenger hunt for levers, wheels
and axles, and inclines or do an activity on friction. Let us know what
you are interested in and we will discuss the possibilities!
